Thanks for correcting me about Barbara Anderson Farkel. I couldn't remember her name and had misunderstood her position at Headquarters. My apologies to Barbara! Thanks to you all for your encouraging comments! I summarized most of the conversation. I led into my comments tactfully because the conversation started with discussing those poor missionaries who were still being held captive. As soon as the conversation turned alittle I piped in. He was supprised when I told him I was a "lifer"....LOL. He knew quite a bit about the Org. Even had the lingo down real good. I know he's not a Dub because he smokes and has a beard and pony tail, unless they loosened the rules...LOL. I'm going to continue to talk to him from time to time and I'll keep you all informed of my "progress".

I had an interesting conversation at work yesterday while on break. Two work mates of mine started to talk about the JW Missionaries who were taken captive in the Philipines. One guy didn't understand why they would take a JW hostage. The other guy, I'll call him "Fred", spoke up as if he knew the whole story. He said "The muslim radical movement in the area is attacking Christian religions and JW's are the closest religion I know of to fit a true Christian religion." I told him I felt it was terrible what had happened and just went back to listening and waited for the subject to change.
Well, I listened about a few more minutes and decided to speak my mind. I asked them both if they were aware that the WTBTS is protecting Pedophiles and does not turn them in to the athourities and that after a short while of being internally discaplined, that they can go back out in public and knock at your door with the latest magazines. Fred spoke up right away. He said " Well, my ex-wifes parents are JW's and I know alot about this...those people who are coming forward are having a gripe against the WTS and they choose to lash out like that. The WTS uses the rule of having two witnesses to a wrongdoing in order to make a decision. So...." At this point I interupted and asked if he felt that Dateline and CNN would have aired this problem if they felt it was mere hearsay. I also told him I was raised as a JW and recently left because of the hypocrosy, lies and decete within the Org.
By now there was about five other people who joined to listen. Fred was getting aweful quiet and began to back-peddle a little. I asked him how a small child who is being molested by an adult in a private location has any "witnesses" to the crime. All you heard was everyone say...."GOOD POINT". He said " but I know alot of JW's and they are the best people I know." I told him I agreed that there are alot of good people who are JW's, but my point was not with the individuals but was with the small group of Old men up in NY who make all the policy's and form Elder bodies in Cong's to enforce their rules. He said " but they make it sound like it's widespread and is bigger than what is happening with the catholics." I told him about Bill Bowen and Silentlambs, and about the secretary at Bethel who discovered the thousands of cases from cong's all over the world that had been kept quiet. I also told him that Bill was only trying to get the WTS to change the way they handle cases of abuse, both Pedophile cases and spousal abuse cases. I told him that they answered his request by disfellowshipping him and his wife for their efforts.
Everyone around me was speechless. You could see disbelief on their faces. A few walked away very angry. Fred stayed a few more minutes with me and asked about my background. After talking with him he had a slightly different attitude towards the WTS.
Boy did I feel good!!

Happyman....I wish I had the chance to meet you face to face. You sound like a very sincere person. Keep reading the posts here. It has helped me to see that I made the right dicision to leave the WTS. Your freedom to think on your own is the most important thing and no one should take that from you.

This latest "crackdown" will be shaking the WTS tree and many more hopefully will fall our way. I enjoyed all your comments on this thread. Doesn't it make your heart rejoice with gladness that your not under that mind control any longer!!
They use a few sentences in par. 5 to tell their faithful NO MORE INTERNET...unless you go to the "official site"....what a bunch of crap! It goes back to the point that if they are so confident that what they teach is the truth, then what are they afraid of!

what were the worst introductions you remmeber people using on the ministry?
"hello my friend and i....." .
"hello we've been talking to your neighbours, do you think we can ever see a peaceful world?
Two brothers approach door...door opens...brother starts.." Hel...." I"M NOT INTERESTED...brother: but? I TOLD YOU...I"M NOT INTERESTED...how do you know what....I TOLD YOU I"M NOT INTERESTED. brother finally says: Thats too bad...I was giving away Hundred dollar bills...and walks away..
I actually got fed up with service one day and said that. Got counseled yet again. I always had a real bad attitude.

one thing that i enjoy about this board is the variety of topics that you can enjoy.
there is the "fluff" and there is the serious and there's something a little in between.
which subjects do you find most interesting to read?
I like Dirt on the WTBS. I like some bible discussion, but alot of them get too lengthy and I lose interest. I also like viewing family pic's and vacation pic's from all. They give you a chance to put some reality and faces with the posts. I like keeping up with Bill's Silentlambs efforts the most. I think his efforts and those who help him will do some major damage to the WTBS. I think the fluff is good too. You need some fun to keep your sense of humor in tact...LOL.

as former jw i did witness favouritism towards elders and circuit overseers and also noticed how low status j-dubs actually lined up to speak to the circuit/overseers wife.even outside association seemed to be confined to say elders associating with elders etc.
i remember when even a sister gave a glass of water to a coughing circuit.overseer but i noticed she never did this to others in the hall.. then for instance how many at the hall formed groupies after meetings not making any effort to gell with others,i felt so sorry for those just sitting on there own.. so why do they act like this, it beats me because a lot of literature and talks focused on not being impartial to others, were they really taking it in or was it a question of congregation status or favouritism towards others.. also outside the meetings association didnt seem to exist and only confined to a certain favoured individuals.
I lived up North most of my life (Ct.) I was guilty of being cliqueish. I had been real tight with an Elder for 20 years. He had alot of parties that only those who drank and partyed heavily and kept it quiet would be invited too. He had moved South and after my divorce I decided to go South as well. They made a major deal of finding me the new "Ideal Mate". He and his family were always introducing me to pioneers. My answer was always, "I tried being married to a pioneer for 20 years, never again". They brought one pioneer over for diner and invited me. Tink was also invited because she was friends with this pioneer. Tink was just newly re-instated and they were very strongly against me having interest in her. Guess who I ended up marrying..LOL.
The Elder tried to explain that the other sister was "well connected with a strong family in the truth, with everyone being a pioneer, elder, or MS". That's all I heard for months. Who you know, what "status they have in the Cong....blah, blah, blah.
After Tink and I were married, we were left out of gatherings, after meeting meet-ups at restaurants, and parts on meetings. This was the beginning of the end. I never realized how bad it was while being involved with them until I stepped back into reality.
We sure are happy now!

just curious.. i started diving (scuba!!!
) in 1990, progressing to advanced instructor with the british sub aqua club (equiv.
3 star instructor cmas).
Hey LB 56!!!!! You just blew my mind man...That's a great attitude...keep going till the air runs out...LOL... I am really jonsing about going diving again. Where land locked here in Tn. Center Hill Lake and Dale Hollow Lake are the only places I know of around here that people dive, but there is limited visibility and if you like swimming with giant sized catfish (50-80 lbs as big as a bus) then so be it. NOT for me. Like I said before, I'm spoiled with warm water and 100+ ft visibility.
Funds are pretty low too. We bought a house 2 yrs ago and put most of our money into it. We haven't been on a decent vacation in a while, so this Feb or Mar Tink and I are talking about Aruba. She has never been there and I had a time share there in the early 90's so I know alot of cool places that both of us would love. She's not a diver and has a hard time even snorkling. I haven't even been snorkling with her yet. Some guy in Fla. tryed to teach her in a pool but had no teaching quality's. I was trained by some good instructors and I told her I'd help her. I picked up some good technics to help newcomers.
If someone wants to plan a short dive vacation in the future I'd be interested enough to look into it. Let me know if anyone is planning something.
